Summary of Property Tax Allocations

Property Tax Allocation

Every property tax dollar is levied for a specific County service.

Walton County's countywide ad valorem (property) tax is the largest funding source for core services that aren’t paid for by their own dedicated fees — constitutional offices, public safety, courts, and general government. This page shows the proposed dollar amount each department receives from that tax.

Total Countywide Ad Valorem Revenue

County-only portion (excludes schools and other taxing authorities).

North Walton Mosquito Control

Separate district ad valorem levy.

Departments Funded

Offices and departments that receive at least some of their budget from this tax.

1 Mill = $1 per $1,000

Of a property’s taxable value, after exemptions such as homestead.

3.4347 Rolled-Back Rate

The millage rate that would raise approximately the same countywide property tax revenue as last year, excluding new construction.

3.7782 Two-Thirds Vote Maximum Millage Rate

Under Florida’s TRIM law, this is the maximum millage rate the Board of County Commissioners may adopt with a two-thirds vote. Higher rates require a unanimous vote or voter approval.

Separate Levy Mosquito Control

North Walton Mosquito Control sets its own millage outside this countywide tax. See its budget →

How This Is Calculated

Taxable value is the value the Property Appraiser uses to calculate your tax bill — it is usually lower than your home's market value because of the homestead exemption and other assessment limits. Your official taxable value is on your annual TRIM notice or the Property Appraiser's website.

What's included: this covers the County's own countywide portion of your property tax bill. What's NOT included: school district taxes, water management district taxes, special taxing districts (such as North Walton Mosquito Control), and any other independent taxing authorities on your bill — those are set and billed separately.

What Your Property Tax Supports estimates your County property tax bill using your taxable value and the last approved Walton County millage rate of 3.519 mills, then allocates that estimated bill proportionally across the countywide property tax allocation shown above. This is the Current column. Some listed services are shown as fully funded by property tax revenue, while others represent only the portion of that service funded by property tax revenue; other revenues (charges for services, fees, etc.) are netted out, leaving just the property tax revenue portion.

The FY 2027 Change column highlights departments with an actual budget change from FY2026 to FY2027 that are funded, in whole or in part, by County property tax (ad valorem) revenue — departments with no such change are shown at $0.00 rather than left off the list. The dollar amount shown for each department estimates how much of your County property tax supports that change by applying the department's actual FY2026-to-FY2027 budget change percentage to your estimated current-year contribution. The Estimated New Amount column is simply Current plus that change.

These estimates are provided for informational and educational purposes only and should not be considered an official determination of taxes. Actual tax amounts may vary based on property classification, exemptions, assessment limitations, taxable value determinations, millage rates, voter-approved levies, and other factors. Users should view official records from the Walton County Property Appraiser for parcel-specific tax information.

Parcel data is sourced from the Florida GIO statewide dataset.
